Six New York correctional officers are facing charges for their involvement in the beating that killed inmate Robert Brooks, per TMZ.

On Thursday (February 20), Nicholas Anzalone, David Kingsley, Anthony Farina, Christopher Walrath, and Mathew Galliher were arraigned on charges of second-degree murder in connection to the fatal beating of Brooks at the Marcy Correctional Facility. A sixth unnamed suspect is also facing a second-degree murder charge but hasn't been arraigned.

More prison workers, including Michael Mashaw, Michael Fisher, and David Walters, were charged with manslaughter in connection to Brooks' death. Nicholas Gentile was also charged with tampering with physical evidence.

The nine suspects arraigned on Thursday pleaded not guilty to their respective charges, according to reports.

Brooks was serving his 12-year assault sentence at the Marcy Correctional Facility when he died on December 10 after being beaten by correctional officers. Body camera footage shows correctional officers repeatedly punching Brooks in the face and groin as he was handcuffed on a medical examination table.

One officer used a shoe to hit Brooks in the stomach while another grabbed him by the neck and slammed him on the table. The officers removed Brooks' clothes as he appeared to lay motionless and bloodied on the table.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner cited Brooks' cause of death as “compression of the neck and multiple blunt force injuries and the manner” of death as homicide.
