President Donald Trump has again berated a Black reporter asking about his threats to deploy federal troops in several Democratic-led cities.
The latest incident unfolded during an Oval Office press conference on Friday (September 19), when journalist Ebony McMorris, a correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, questioned Trump about potential National Guard deployments to Memphis.
“Quiet,” Trump said to McMorris in the room full of reporters. “You’re really obnoxious.”
“I’m not obnoxious, but I’m trying to ask you, what about your plans for Memphis?” McMorris responded.
“You are really obnoxious,” Trump repeated, refusing to answer her question.
McMorris pressed Trump again, asking, “What are your plans for Memphis? Many people wanted to know—”, but the president abruptly cut her off.
“I’m not going to talk to you until I call on you,” Trump said before moving on to another reporter.
This isn't the first time Trump has lashed out at a Black reporter asking about his federal crackdown on crime.
NBC reporter Yamiche Alcindor was scolded by the president earlier this month after she questioned him about threatening federal intervention in Chicago and referring to the Department of Defense as the "Department of War."
“You trying to go to war with Chicago?” Alcindor asked.
“Be quiet. Listen! You don’t listen. You never listen,” Trump snapped, calling Alcindor "darling." “That’s why you’re second-rate.”
The Washington Association of Black Journalists (WABJ) spoke out about the latest incident against McMorris, who is a member of the organization.
“Asking difficult questions you don’t want to hear does not make her ‘obnoxious,’” the organization wrote. “Ebony is just doing her job, like everyone else in the room.”
